ヨシュア記３章
ヨシュアは朝早く起きると、彼らはシッティムから出て、ヨシュアとイスラエルのすべての子孫達とともにヨルダン川に来ました。
そして、彼らは通り過ぎる前にそこに泊まりました。
2 そして、三日後、役人達が陣営の真ん中を通り抜けました。
3 そこで、彼らは民に命じて言いました。
「あなたがたの神、主の契約の箱と、それを担ぐレビ人の祭司達を見たら、あなたがたはその場から出て、それを追って行け！
4 しかし、あなたとそれとの間には、およそ二千キュビトの空間がある。
あなたが行かなければならない道を知るために、それに近づくな！
あなたがたはこれまでこの道を通ったことがなかったからだ。」
5 そこで、ヨシュアは民に言いました。
「自分を聖別しなさい！明日、主はあなたがたの間で奇跡を行われるからだ。」
6 ヨシュアは祭司達に言いました。
「契約の箱を取り上げて、民の前を歩け！」
そして、彼らは契約の箱を担ぎ、民の前に出ました。
7 そこで、主はヨシュアに言われました。
「今日、わたしは全イスラエルの前であなたを讃え始める。それは、わたしがモーセとともにいたように、わたしもあなたとともにいることを彼らに知らせるためである。
8 そして、あなたは契約の箱を担ぐ祭司達にこう命じなさい！『あなたがたはヨルダン川の水の岸辺に来たら、ヨルダン川の中で立ち止まらなければならない！』」
9 ヨシュアはイスラエルの人々に言いました。
「ここに来て、あなたの神、主の言葉を聞きなさい！」
10 ヨシュアは言いました。
「このことにより、生ける神があなたがたの間におられ、神は必ずあなたの前からカナン人、ヒッタイト人、ヒビ人、ペリジ人、ギルガシ人、 アモリ人、そして、エブス人。
11 見よ！全地の主の契約の箱が、ヨルダン川を越えてあなたの前を通過する。
12 そこで、イスラエルの部族の中から十二人を選べ！各部族ごとに一人ずつだ。
13 そして、全地の主、主の箱を担ぐ祭司達の足の裏がヨルダン川の水の中にとどまると、ヨルダン川の水は断たれる。上から流れてくる水さえも止めよ！そして、それらは一つの山のように立つ。」
14 民が天幕から出てヨルダン川を渡ろうとした時、契約の箱を担いだ祭司達は民の前に立ちました。
15 そして、箱を担いだ人々がヨルダン川に来た時、箱を担いだ祭司達の足は水の淵に浸かりました。ヨルダン川は収穫の時期には、その岸全体に氾濫するからです。
16 ザレタンの隣の町アダムから遠く離れたところに、上から流れてきた水がたまって一段と盛り上がりました。そして、アラバの海、塩の海に向かって下った人々は完全に遮断されてしまいました。そして、人々はエリコに向かって右に渡っていきました。
17 そして、主の契約の箱を担いだ祭司達は、ヨルダン川の真ん中の乾いた地にしっかりと立っていましたが、全イスラエルは乾いた地を渡り、ついに全民がヨルダンをきれいに渡り終えました。
1 ヨシュアは翌朝早く、イスラエル人全部といっしょに、シティムを出発してヨルダン川の川岸まで行き、それを渡る前に、そこに泊まった。
2 三日たってから、つかさ達は宿営の中を巡り、
3 民に命じて言いました。「あなたがたは、あなたがたの神、主の契約の箱を見、レビ人の祭司達が、それをかついでいるのを見たなら、あなたがたのいる所を発って、そのうしろを進まなければならない。
4 あなたがたと箱との間には、約二千キュビトの距離をおかなければならない。それに近づいてはならない。それは、あなたがたの行くべき道を知るためである。あなたがたは、今までこの道を通ったころがないからだ。」
5 ヨシュアは民に言いました。「あなたがたの身をきよめなさい。あす、主が、あなたがたのうちで不思議を行われるから。」
6 ヨシュアは祭司達に命じて言いました。「契約の箱をかつぎ、民の先頭に立って渡りなさい。」そこで、彼らは契約の箱をかつぎ、民の先頭に立って行った。
7 主はヨシュアに仰せられた。「きょうから、わたしはイスラエル全体の見ている前で、あなたを大いなる者としよう。それは、わたしがモーセとともにいたように、あなたとともにいることを、彼らが知るためである。
8 あなたは契約の箱をかつぐ祭司達に命じてこう言え。『ヨルダン川の水ぎわに来たとき、あなたがたはヨルダン川の中に立たなければならない。』」
9 ヨシュアはイスラエル人に言いました。「ここに近づき、あなたがたの神、主のことばを聞きなさい。」
10 ヨシュアは言いました。「生ける神があなたがたのうちにおられ、あなたがたの前から、カナン人、ヘテ人、ヒビ人、ペリジ人、ギルガシ人、エモリ人、エブス人を、必ず追い払われることを、次のことで知らなければならない。
11 見よ。全地の主の契約の箱が、あなたがたの先頭に立って、ヨルダン川を渡ろうとしている。
12 今、部族ごとにひとりずつ、イスラエルの部族の中から十二人を選び出しなさい。
13 全地の主である主の箱をかつぐ祭司達の足の裏が、ヨルダン川の水の中にとどまると、ヨルダン川の水は、上から流れ下って来る水がせきとめられ、せきをなして立つようになる。」
14 民がヨルダン川を渡るために、天幕を発ったとき、契約の箱をかつぐ祭司達は民の先頭にいた。
15 箱をかつぐ者がヨルダン川まで来て、箱をかつぐ祭司達の足が水ぎわに浸ったとき、—ヨルダン川は刈り入れの間中、岸いっぱいにあるれるのだが—
16 上から流れ下る水はつっ立って、はるかかなたのツァレタンのそばにある町アダムのところで、せきをなして立ち、アラバの海、すなわち塩の海のほうに流れ下る水は完全にせきとめられた。民はエリコに面するところを渡った。
17 主の契約の箱をかつぐ祭司達がヨルダン川の真ん中のかわいた地にしっかりと立つうちに、イスラエル全体は、かわいた地を通り、ついに民はすべてヨルダン川を渡り終わった。
And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and they removed from Shittim, and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel; and they lodged there before they passed over.
2 And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the midst of the camp;
3 and they commanded the people, saying: 'When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.
4 Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure; come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go; for ye have not passed this way heretofore.'
5 And Joshua said unto the people: 'Sanctify yourselves; for to-morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.'
6 And Joshua spoke unto the priests, saying: 'Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass on before the people.' And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.
7 And the LORD said unto Joshua: 'This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.
8 And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying: When ye are come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan, ye shall stand still in the Jordan.'
9 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel: 'Come hither, and hear the words of the LORD your God.'
10 And Joshua said: 'Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that He will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Hivite, and the Perizzite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Jebusite.
11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth on before you over the Jordan.
12 Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, for every tribe a man.
13 And it shall come to pass, when the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, even the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand in one heap.'
14 And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over the Jordan, the priests that bore the ark of the covenant being before the people;
15 and when they that bore the ark were come unto the Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bore the ark were dipped in the brink of the water--for the Jordan overfloweth all its banks all the time of harvest--
16 that the waters which came down from above stood, and rose up in one heap, a great way off from Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan; and those that went down toward the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, were wholly cut off; and the people passed over right against Jericho.
17 And the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan, while all Israel passed over on dry ground, until all the nation were passed clean over the Jordan.
