イザヤ書４１章
島々よ！私の前で沈黙を守り、人々に力を新たにしてください！
彼らを近づけてから話させてください！ 共に裁きに近づきましょう。
2 誰が東から人を起こしたのでしょうか？その歩みに勝利が訪れるのでしょうか？
彼は自分の前に国々を与え、彼に王達を統治させます。
彼の剣は彼らを塵のようにし、彼の弓は打ち抜かれた切り株のようにします。
3 彼は彼らを追いかけ、安全に進みます。彼は自分の足で道を歩みません。
4 誰がそのことを考案し、実行したのでしょうか? 初めから世代を呼んだお方。
主であるわたしは、最初の者であり最後の者であり、同じです。
5 島々は見て恐れました。地の果てが震えました。彼らは近づいてやって来ました。
6 彼らは隣人を一人一人助けました。
そして、皆が弟に、「勇気を出しなさい！」と言いました。
7 そこで、大工は金細工師と金床を打つ金槌でならす者を励まし、はんだ付けについてこう言いました。
「それはいいですよ。」そして、動かないように釘で固定しました。
8 しかし、イスラエルよ！
あなたは、わたしの僕、わたしが選んだヤコブ！わたしの友アブラハムの子孫よ！
9 わたしはあなたを地の果てからつかみ、その果てからあなたを呼んでこう言いました。
「あなたはわたしの僕です。わたしはあなたを選び、捨てません。」
10 恐れるな！わたしはあなたとともにいるから。
落胆するな！わたしはあなたの神だから。
私はあなたを強めます。そうです。私はあなたを助けます。
そう、私は勝利の右手であなたを支えます。
11 見よ！あなたに対して激怒した者達はみな、恥じ、当惑するだろう。
あなたと争った者達は無となり、滅びるだろう。
12 あなたは彼らを捜し求めても、あなたと争った者さえも見つけられないだろう。あなたに対して戦った者達は無に帰し、無に等しいものとなるだろう。
13 あなたの神、主であるわたしがあなたの右の手を握って、あなたにこう言うからだ。『恐れるな！わたしがあなたを助ける。』
14 恐れるな！ヤコブとイスラエルの人々よ！わたしはあなたを助ける」
と主であるあなたの救い主、イスラエルの聖者は言われる。
15 見よ！わたしはあなたを鋭い歯を持つ新しい脱穀機にする。
あなたは山を脱穀し、それらを小さく打ち砕き、丘をもみがらのようにするだろう。
16 あなたが彼らを扇ぐと、風が彼らを運び、つむじ風が彼らを散らすだろう。
そうすれば、あなたは主にあって喜び、イスラエルの聖なる方に栄光を帰すだろう。
17 貧しい者や貧しい者は水を求めても水がなく、彼らの舌は渇く。
主であるわたしは彼らに答える。
イスラエルの神であるわたしは彼らを見捨てない。
18 わたしは高い丘に川を開き、谷の真ん中に泉を開く。
わたしは荒野を水の池とし、乾いた地に水を湧き出させる。
19 わたしは荒野に杉、アカシヤの木、ギンバイカ、油の木を植える。
私は砂漠に糸杉、プラタナス、カラマツを一緒に植える。
20 それは、主の手によってこれが行われ、イスラエルの聖者がそれを創造したことを、彼らが見て、知り、考え、共に理解するためである。
21 主は言われる。
「大義を立てよ！理由を明らかにせよ！」
と、ヤコブの王なる方は言う。
22 彼らを連れ出して、これから起こることを私達に告げさせてください！
以前のもの、それは何ですか？
私達が彼らの結末を考え、知ることができるように、あなたがたに宣言してください！または、今後のことを私達に発表します。
23 あなたが神であることを私達が知るために、今から後に起こることを宣言してください！ そうです、善を行うか悪を行うか、私達が落胆するかもしれない。
そして、それを一緒に見ましょう。
24 見よ！あなたがたは無であり、あなたの働きは無意味である。
あなたを選ぶのは忌まわしいことだ。
25 わたしは北から一人を呼び起こした。
そして、彼は来た。日の出からわたしの名を呼び求める者。
そして、彼はモルタルの上に立つように、陶器師が粘土を踏むように支配者達に臨むだろう。
26 誰が、私達が知ることができるように、初めから宣言したでしょうか？
そして、いつか、彼が正しいと言えるようになるまでに？
そう、宣言する者は誰もいない。そう、宣言する者は誰もいない。
そう、あなたの発言を聞く者は誰もいない。
27 わたしはシオンに前兆を与える。
『見よ！彼らを見よ！』
エルサレムには良い知らせの使者を与える。
28 見てみますが、人はいない。
彼らの中にも、私が尋ねた時に答えることができるカウンセラーはいない。
29 見よ！彼らは皆、その行いはむなしい。無益である。
彼らの溶けたイメージは風と混乱です。
1 島々よ。わたしの前で静まれ。諸国の民よ。新しい力を得よ。近寄って、今、語れ。われわれは、こぞって、さばきの座に近づこう。
2 誰が、ひとりの者を東から起こし、彼の行く先々で勝利を収めさせるのか。彼の前に国々を渡し、王達を踏みにじらせ、その剣で彼らをちりのようにし、その弓でわらのように吹き払う。
3 彼は彼らを追い、まだ歩いて行ったことのない道を安全に通って行く。
4 誰が、これを成し遂げたのか。初めから代々の人々に呼びかけた者ではないか。わたし、主こそ初めであり、また終わりとともにある。わたしがそれだ。
5 島々は見て恐れた。地の果ては震えながら近づいて来た。
6 彼らは互いに助け合い、その兄弟に「強くあれ」と言う。
7 鋳物師は金細工人を力づけ、金槌で打つ者は、鉄床をたたく者に、はんだづけについて「それで良い」と言い、釘で打ちつけて動かないようにする。
8 しかし、わたしのしもべ、イスラエルよ。わたしが選んだヤコブ、わたしの友、アブラハムのすえよ。
9 わたしは、あなたを地の果てから連れ出し、地のはるかな所からあなたを呼び出して言いました。「あなたは、わたしのしもべ。わたしはあなたを選んで、捨てなかった。」
10 恐れるな。わたしはあなたとともにいる。たじろぐな。わたしがあなたの神だから。わたしはあなたを強め、あなたを助け、わたしの義の右の手で、あなたを守る。
11 見よ。あなたに向かっていきりたつ者はみな、恥を見、はずかしめを受け、あなたと争う者達は、無いもののようになって滅びる。
12 あなたと言い争いをする者を捜しても、あなたは見つけることはできず、あなたと戦う者達は、全くなくなってしまう。
13 あなたの神、主であるわたしが、あなたの右の手を堅く握り、「恐れるな。わたしがあなたを助ける」と言っているのだから。
14 恐れるな。虫けらのヤコブ、イスラエルの人々。わたしはあなたを助ける。―主の御告げ―あなたを贖う者はイスラエルの聖なる者。
15 見よ。わたしはあなたを鋭い、新しいもろ刃の打穀機とする。あなたは、山々を踏みつけて粉々に砕く。丘をもみがらのようにする。
16 あなたがそれをあおぐと、風が運び去り、暴風がそれをまき散らす。あなたは主によって喜び、イスラエルの聖なる者によって誇る。
17 悩んでいる者や貧しい者が水を求めても水はなく、その舌は渇きで干からびるが、わたし、主は、彼らに答え、イスラエルの神は、彼らを見捨てない。
18 わたしは、裸の丘に川を開き、平地に泉をわかせる。荒野を水のある沢とし、砂漠の地を水の源とする。
19 わたしは荒野の中に杉や、アカシヤ、ミルトス、オリーブの木を植え、荒地にもみの木、すずかけ、檜も共に植える。
20 主の手がこのことをし、イスラエルの聖なる者がこれを創造したことを、彼らが見て知り、心に留めて、共に悟るためである。
21 あなたがたの訴えを出せ、と主は仰せられる。あなたがたの証拠を持って来い、とヤコブの王は仰せられる。
22 持って来て、後に起ころうとする事を告げよ。先にあった事は何であったのかを告げよ。そうすれば、われわれもそれに心を留め、また後の事どもを知ることができよう。または、来たるべき事をわたし達に聞かせよ。
23 後に起ころうとする事を告げよ。そうすれば、われわれは、あなたがたが神であることを知ろう。良いことでも、悪いことでもしてみよ。そうすれば、われわれは共に見て驚こう。
24 見よ。あなたがたは無に等しい。あなたがたのわざはむなしい。あなたがたを選んだことは忌まわしい。
25 わたしが北から人を起こすと、彼は来て、日の出る所から、わたしの名を呼ぶ。彼は長官達をしっくいのように踏む。陶器師が粘土を踏みつけるように。
26 誰が、初めから告げて、われわれにこのことを知るようにさせただろうか。誰か、あらかじめ、われわれに「それは正しい」と言うようにさせただろうか。告げた者はひとりもなく、聞かせた者もひとりもなく、あなたがたの言うことを聞いた者も誰ひとり、いなかった。
27 わたしが、最初にシオンに、「見よ。これを見よ」と言い、わたしが、エルサレムに、良い知らせを伝える者を与えよう。
28 わたしが見回しても、誰もいない。彼らの中には、わたしが尋ねても返事のできる助言者もいない。
29 見よ。彼らはみな、偽りを言い、彼らのなすことはむなしい。彼らの鋳た像は風のように形もない。
Keep silence before Me, O islands, and let the peoples renew their strength; let them draw near, then let them speak; let us come near together to judgment.
2 Who hath raised up one from the east, at whose steps victory attendeth? He giveth nations before him, and maketh him rule over kings; his sword maketh them as the dust, his bow as the driven stubble.
3 He pursueth them, and passeth on safely; the way with his feet he treadeth not.
4 Who hath wrought and done it? He that called the generations from the beginning. I, the LORD, who am the first, and with the last am the same.
5 The isles saw, and feared; the ends of the earth trembled; they drew near, and came.
6 They helped every one his neighbour; and every one said to his brother: 'Be of good courage.'
7 So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he that smootheth with the hammer him that smiteth the anvil, saying of the soldering: 'It is good'; and he fastened it with nails, that it should not be moved.
8 But thou, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham My friend;
9 Thou whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the uttermost parts thereof, and said unto thee: 'Thou art My servant, I have chosen thee and not cast thee away';
10 Fear thou not, for I am with thee, be not dismayed, for I am thy God; I strengthen thee, yea, I help thee; yea, I uphold thee with My victorious right hand.
11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded; they that strove with thee shall be as nothing, and shall perish.
12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee; they that warred against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
13 For I the LORD thy God hold thy right hand, who say unto thee: 'Fear not, I help thee.'
14 Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I help thee, saith the LORD, and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
15 Behold, I make thee a new threshing-sledge having sharp teeth; thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.
16 Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them; and thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, thou shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.
17 The poor and needy seek water and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst; I the LORD will answer them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.
18 I will open rivers on the high hills, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.
19 I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia-tree, and the myrtle, and the oil-tree; I will set in the desert the cypress, the plane-tree, and the larch together;
20 That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.
21 Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your reasons, saith the King of Jacob.
22 Let them bring them forth, and declare unto us the things that shall happen; the former things, what are they? Declare ye, that we may consider, and know the end of them; or announce to us things to come.
23 Declare the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods; yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.
24 Behold, ye are nothing, and your work a thing of nought; an abomination is he that chooseth you.
25 I have roused up one from the north, and he is come, from the rising of the sun one that calleth upon My name; and he shall come upon rulers as upon mortar, and as the potter treadeth clay.
26 Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say that he is right? Yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that announceth, yea, there is none that heareth your utterances.
27 A harbinger unto Zion will I give: 'Behold, behold them', and to Jerusalem a messenger of good tidings.
28 And I look, but there is no man; even among them, but there is no counsellor, that, when I ask of them, can give an answer.
29 Behold, all of them, their works are vanity and nought; their molten images are wind and confusion.
